This is a wonderful new mystery involving the business world, set in Los Angeles. Tucker Sinclair is working her way toward partnership status in Aames & Associates, a financial management consulting firm. Her new assignment is to develop a business plan to seek investment for a physician-client who wants to build a medical testing center, a simple enough assignment until she meets the client, Dr. Milton Polk. He decides that she will do the business plan his way, despite her employer’s usual approach. After doing a superb job on the plan, her boss calls her into the office to tell her that the investors for Polk’s venture are suing them, claiming that Tucker misled them. Tucker discovers that someone falsified her business plan and sent the investors a more favorable version. She also realizes that unless she can prove it, she’ll be charged with a felony.
Tucker sets out to find out who sabotaged her, and then Dr. Polk turns up dead. In order to clear her own name, she first has to find out who killed Polk. The long and winding search for the truth begins, involving Tuckers’ coworkers, her family, and the police. This is a fast-paced page-turner, with a little humor and romance tossed in for good measure. I hope that we will be able to read more of Tucker Sinclair’s adventures in many, many sequels.
